A man who was sentenced to life in prison for raping and killing a teen, suffered serious burns after being scalded with boiling water, police in Scotland said.
54-year-old William Beggs of Lurgan, Armagh, is serving a life sentence in prison for raping 18-year-old Barry Wallace before killing him.
Beggs dumped his victim’s remains in the sea. Beggs screamed in pain as boiling water was thrown over his face and hands inside his cell.
Beggs is scheduled to be released from prison later this year. The attacker told his friends that he was taking revenge because Beggs attacked him soon after he came to the prison.
Beggs was treated for the burns in the prison infirmary, and was not transferred to a hospital.
Police learned that Beggs took the teenager to his apartment and subjected him to a serious sexual assault. He then murdered him.
Shortly after the crime, Beggs fled to Holland. After a long process of extradition, he was returned to Scotland to stand trial.
