(Scroll down for video) A heart surgeon was arrested on charges of conspiracy after allegedly trying to kill his rival in order to eliminate his competition, police in New York said.
Cardiologist Anthony J. Moschetto, 54, of Long Island, ran his practice for more than 25 years.
The New York Police Department said that Moschetto sought to have his rival injured or killed in a plot that was discovered during a drug investigation.
Moschetto is also accused of burning the office of his rival. He hired an undercover police officer in a failed attempt to hurt or kill Martin Handler, police said.
Moschetto now faces several charges, including conspiracy and arson. He was charged on Wednesday, and his bail was set at $2 million.
Moschetto used drugs, guns and blank prescriptions as currency while trying to incapacitate the other doctor.
Moschetto was willing to pay $5,000 to beat his rival and put him in the hospital for a couple of month.
He also agreed to pay $20,000 to have him killed. He wanted to put him out of business so he could get his clients. In Moschetto’s home, police found dozens of knives, guns and hand grenades.
