A judge became extremely angry and cleared the courtroom after he sentenced a man to several months in jail, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
The public gallery of the courtroom in Mansfield, was cleared of people after someone loudly broke wind.
About 10 people had been watching the case at the Mansfield Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday afternoon, in which a man was being sentenced to prison for assault.
And as the judge ruled that the accused should spend the next few months behind bars, the embarrassing slip could be heard from behind the glass partition, separating the public from the court.
The laughter and the stink led to discontinuation of the proceedings, and as a result, everyone was ordered to leave the courtroom.
Once the room was disinfected, the sentencing continued.
41-year-old David John Dennett pleaded guilty to carrying an ax into a bar and assaulting a patron. No charges have been filed in the breaking wind case.
