(Scroll down for video) A young man was shot dead by police after he locked his mother out of her home, police in Missouri said.
Two St. Louis County police officers shot and killed the man after he attacked them with a knife.
Police have also released a video, showing the events leading up to the shooting. The police had no choice but to use lethal force, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said.
The officers resorted to less lethal force to try to bring the incident to a safe conclusion without loss of life, but this person made the decision to reject these attempts, and charged against the officers with a deadly weapon.
Police said that they responded to a call from a woman who said that her son, 23-year-old Thaddeus McCarroll, locked her out from her home.
McCarroll walked around the house with several knives and a samurai sword. Around 10:30 p.m., police requested the support of the Tactical Operations Unit, and they began negotiating with McCarroll.
After about an hour of negotiations, McCarroll exited the residence armed with a knife in one hand and a Bible in the other.
The officers then tried to get McCarroll to drop the knife, but he refused. McCarroll charged at the officers with the knife still in his hand.
Fearing for their safety, two officers shot McCarroll multiple times.
