A woman was arrested on charges of assault after allegedly beating up her landlord because he told her to stop smoking in his apartment, police in Nigeria said.
Lagos State Police said that they have arrested 24-year-old Doris Okafor on Monday, after being accused of assaulting her landlord in his home.
Okafor of 43 4th Avenue, faces charges of conspiracy and assault causing harm.
According to the police investigation, around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Okafor and four other suspect who are still on the run, went over to her landlord’s home, which is located at 66 Emmanuel Street.
The woman and her four accomplices assaulted Godwin Ulom, before fleeing from the scene.
Ulom told investigators that he told the woman to stop smoking in his apartment and not to hang out with gang members.
If convicted, Okafor faced up to three years in prison for the assault and up to two years in prison for the conspiracy. Okafor pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Okafor was booked into jail and released after posting N20,000 ($100) bail.
