(Scroll down for video) A mother of 2 children was shot as she ran away from her rapist without clothes.

Police said that a homeless man raped the woman, who is a manager at a homeless shelter.

39-year-old West Spruill lived in the Project Renewal Shelter in Bronx, New York, for about 6 months.

On Monday night, he went to the homeless shelter, where
Ana Charle works.

Police said that Spruill waited for the 36-year-old mother with a gun and when she parked a block from her workplace, he attacked her.

Spruill ordered Charle to get back into her Honda, and forced her to take off her clothes, which she did.

Charle managed to break free and fled down the street without her clothes, witnesses told police.

The suspect, who was also naked, chased Charle, firing three shots from a .40 caliber pistol at close range.

The bullets hit her on the cheeks and chest. When Charle fell to the sidewalk, the suspect returned to the car, grabbed his clothes and fled.

Witnesses called police, and they arrested Spruill a short time later.

He faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He may face additional charges of rape if the autopsy reveals that Charle was raped.

Police are still investigating the motive of the brutal murder.

Charle leaves behind two daughters, 9 and 11 years old.
