A man was arrested on charges of assault after allegedly threatening a garbage truck driver with a knife while trying to pull out his imaginary girlfriend from the vehicle, police in Florida said.
Around 8:30 a.m., a WCA Waste Corporation truck driver was making rounds at the Linton Oaks apartment complex when a man armed with a kitchen knife stood in front of the vehicle and ordered him to leave.
75-year-old Walter Welch also told the driver that he thought his girlfriend was in the truck and tried to climb into it. The driver ignored Welch and kept going.
Welch returned with a can of pepper spray and emptied its contents in the vehicle. The driver called the police and they went to Welch’s house.
They found what they thought was crack cocaine sitting on a coffee table, plus a bottle that had been modified for smoking the drug.
The garbage truck required $100 cleaning due to the pepper spray.
Welch was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, damage to property, theft, possession of cocaine and possession of drug equipment.
He was booked into the Alachua County Jail, and his bail was set at $55,000.
