Homeless man saves woman by beating rapist until he fell off her

(Scroll down for video) A young homeless man looking for a place to sleep for the night, stumbled upon a crime scene.

Ketrell Ferguson of Washington, DC, who recently became homeless, is being hailed as a hero after he saved a woman from being raped by beating her attacker with a stick.

Ferguson was looking for a place to sleep around 3:30 a.m., when he heard a woman screaming from a bus stop. He went to see what was going on and saw a man on top of the woman.

Ferguson jumped into action. He grabbed a stick and brick, and began beating the suspect on the head until he fell off from the victim.

The bleeding suspect stumbled as he got away. Police spotted the suspect, who was identified as 23-year-old Alemen Gonzalo.

He was bleeding from the head as he was handcuffed not far from the crime scene, police said.

Gonzalo was charged with assault with the intent to commit first-degree sexual abuse.

Police said that Gonzalo offered to pay the victim for sex, but when she declined, he attacked her.
