A man was arrested, charged and convicted of arson after setting his apartment on fire and then trying to extinguish it by urinating on the flames, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

The Derby Crown Court heard how 20-year-old Liam Robotham of Chesterfield, set his apartment on fire following a three day party.

The fire department was called to his rented apartment after a neighbor saw smoke coming from an open window. Robotham was leaving the scene and said that he just burned some toast.

There was a fire investigation and experts confirmed that the fire had been deliberately started. Robotham admitted that he set fire to his shoes and then urinated on them to extinguish the flames.

Robotham pleaded guilty to arson. He was given a 19 month suspended prison sentence and was ordered to perform 180 hours of unpaid work.
