(Scroll down for video) A hospital was slapped with a lawsuit after doctors allegedly performed a Cesarean section on a teen girl despite the fact that she was not pregnant, according to court documents filed in New York.

Doctors at the hospital in Manhattan, began cutting into the patient for a Caesarean section, only to discover that the patient was not pregnant.

The error occurred at the New York Downtown Hospital.

The lawsuit was filed by former doctor Suarna Mehulic, claiming that her dismissal was in retaliation for reporting incidents at the obstetrics and gynecology department.

Two days after reporting her concerns to the Department of Health of the State of New York, she was dismissed. Hospital executives denied the allegations, calling Mehulic paranoid.

The botched Caesarean section was allegedly performed on a 16-year-old girl.

In a statement, the hospital said: “A Caesarean section has never been done in our hospital to a woman who was not pregnant, and if you suggest otherwise, it would be egregious and inflammatory.”

Mehulic said that nobody at the hospital performed a pregnancy test because the girl said that she couldn’t feel the baby move and the hospital staff wanted to deliver the baby immediately.

Investigators at the health department ordered Mehulic to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before practicing medicine in New York, after being accused of 10 incidents of misconduct at the hospital.

Mehulic chose to practice elsewhere, and is now in Texas.
