(Scroll down for video) A 10-year-old child is facing charges for brutally beating and killing his neighbor’s dog.

The boy of Texas, will be indicted on charges of felony animal cruelty after beating the dog to death.

The boy, who has not been named, hit the dog so hard that he broke its skull and spine, according to the dog’s owner Jennifer Knittel.

Knittel said that the dog was in her backyard, when the boy grabbed a stick and hit her 15 pound dog named Cookie.

A neighbor noticed the child kicking two dogs, before walking away holding the stick. The boy told the woman that the dog was asleep, but the neighbor decided to call the police.

Knittel came home to find her neighbor giving a statement to police, while her King Charles Cavalier was dead in the backyard.

Knittel not only wants justice for Cookie, but she wants the 10-year-old boy to get help.

When officers interviewed Knittel, the 10-year-old boy allegedly said that he beat the dog in self-defense.

However, Knittel said that the only way the boy could have come in contact with her dog was by going into her yard. She added that her dog was very friendly and was never aggressive towards anyone.
