(Scroll down for video) A grandmother was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after she allegedly killed her granddaughter’s kittens because she failed to clean her room, police in Illinois said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that they were called to the grandmother’s home on Monday night.

A teenager who lived at the house located in the 5000 block of Victor Drive opened the door. She told police that she found her dead cat in the family freezer.

The grandmother, 71-year-old Josephine E. Bell, allegedly told officers that she killed the cat and its four kittens. Bell said that she had previously warned the grandchildren that they would lose their animals if they do not clean their rooms.

Bell admitted that she killed the pets with a hammer. The dead kittens had been dumped and couldn’t be located. Bell was arrested, and she was booked into the Madison County Jail.

Her bail was set at $15,000.
