A man was arrested on charges of abandoning a human body after he allegedly flushed his wife’s ashes down a supermarket toilet, police in Japan said.
Tokyo Police said that the 68-year-old man surrendered to police after the supermarket employees found ashes in the toilet bowl and scattered on the floor.
The unidentified man told police that he threw the ashes of his wife into the toilet after she was cremated. Police were alerted after the ashes and bone fragments, including a human chin, were discovered.
The suspect told investigators that he felt growing resentment towards his wife during the years of their unhappy marriage. He said that life was extremely difficult.
His wife had died at the age of 64, after an illness.
The man was charged with one count of abandonment of a human body as ashes may only be scattered at approved locations.
