(Scroll down for video) A farmer was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly killing a man because he mistakenly believed that the victim was stealing his mushrooms, police in France said.
37-year-old Laurent Rambaud of Drome, became frustrated after a series of robberies on his mushroom farm.
One day, Rambaud saw 43-year-old Ernesto Pardo, who was known as a mushroom hunter and had previously been arrested for theft, walking his dog near his farm.
Rambaud mistook him for the thief, and shot at him twice. Pardo died at the scene from the gunshot wounds.
This week, the charges against Rambaud has been reduced from murder to manslaughter after the court decided that the killing was not premeditated.
Rambaud still faces 30 years in prison if convicted.
