A bar server was arrested, charged and convicted of manslaughter after serving a man numerous alcoholic drinks until he died, prosecutors in France said.

Now, 47-year-old Gilles Crepin received a 4 month jail sentence after being convicted of manslaughter for serving the man 56 shots during a drinking contest.

Crepin admitted that he had made a mistake by showing how many drinks the man had consumed on a bulletin board during the drinking game.

Crepin was banned from working in a bar for a year.

56-year-old Renaud Prudhomme broke the record for drinks consumed at the bar called Starter located in Clermont-Ferrand.

He had spent the night with his daughter and friends who helped him home. Paramedics were called after Prudhomme felt ill.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day of alcohol poisoning.
