(Scroll down for video) A domestic dispute turned deadly when police killed a father in front of his son.
39-year-old Scott McAllister of New Jersey, was killed by police hours after taking his son hostage, police said.
McAllister refused to hand over the baby to police and barricaded himself inside a house in Middletown Township after a fight with the child’s mother, according to a press release by the State Attorney General.
The terrified mother ran outside and called police around 11:30 p.m. She told police that McAllister hit her in a drunken rage and threatened to hurt her baby, police said.
The woman claimed that McAllister was armed with a knife.
A Monmouth County SWAT team surrounded the home located at 33 Bayside Parkway, as a hostage negotiator tried to convince McAllister to hand over the child.
However, after five hours of failed negotiations, the SWAT team moved into the home, confronting McAllister around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
An officer opened fire, killing the armed father a few steps away from the child, polcie said. The child was not injured.
