Parents in Minnesota, are angry after a school took students to an adult toy store as part of sex education.
About 12 eleven-year-old children who attend the Gaia Democratic School, were taken to the Smitten Kitten adult toy store.
The leader of the school and host of the trip defended the outing, saying that visiting the adult toy store capped a month-long sex education class.
Director Starri Hedges, who teaches sex education classes in the school, said that she wanted to provide a safe and nurturing environment for students to learn about human sexual behavior.
During the trip, the children were able to speak about sex without any shame or fear, according to the director. The school has about 25 students, including several described as transgender.
While in Smitten Kitten, students sat in the book section of the store. Adult toys were visible to the students. Some students bought condoms at the store.
One parent said that he immediately pulled out his two daughters from the school. The shop owner said that Smitten Kitten can be considered as an educational resource about sex and sexuality.
