Lion mauls 22-year-old woman to death after jumping through car window at safari

(Scroll down for video) A woman of the United States, was mauled to death at a safari in South Africa.

The 22-year-old woman was killed when the lion jumped through the open window of her car and began to bite her.

The driver, a tour guide, was injured while trying to free the woman from the clutches of the animal. The incident occurred at the Lion Park in Lanseria near Johannesburg.

Witnesses said that the woman was taking pictures of the lion with an open window when the lion lunged.

Park rangers immediately came to the scene and chased the lion away. Paramedics were also called to the scene.

The woman died while being treated by paramedics. The tour guide was taken to a hospital with injuries to his arms. His injuries are non-life threatening.

Officials said that the lion being kept in a separate enclosure.

Park assistant Scott Simpson said that the park hands out fliers and they have signs warning passengers not to open the car window while driving through the park.
