A woman was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly killing her brother-in-law after he refused to move out of the house in which she lives along with her father-in-law, police in Nigeria said.
Lagos State Police said that they arrested 36-year-old Obiageli Oriuwa, after being accused of killing 37-year-old Doctor Ikechukwu Oriuwa, who is her husband’s brother, in a dispute over inheritance.
Obiageli stabbed Ikechukwu to death in the family home located at 52 Ladega Street.
According to the police investigation, Obiageli stabbed her brother-in-law because she wanted him to move out of his father’s house.
Her husband and her sister-in-law were living in the house on separate floors. Both couples have children. Obiageli claimed that her husband should inherit the house because he is the first born child of his father.
On the day of the incident, Obiageli insisted that Ikechukwu move out, and when he refused, she pulled a knife and stabbed him in the chest.
Ikechukwu was declared dead at the scene.
