A teenager of the United Kingdom, lost her life after a passionate kiss caused her boyfriend to lose control of their car.
21-year-old Craig Chant was driving the car when Katie Bagwell, 19, was in the passenger seat. At some point, Chant moved toward her to give her a kiss.
He lost control of the car on the way home from a pub and drove into a lake.
Chant and another passenger managed to climb out of the car once it hit the water, but Bagwell, who worked as a graphic designer, was trapped in the River Parrett in Somerset. Despite the frantic efforts to save her, Bagwell died of drowning.
Chant pleaded guilty at the Taunton Crown Court to causing death by dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol. He said that the accident occurred in a “moment of distraction.”
Chant was sentenced to 21 months in prison, and he was banned from driving for 4 years.
