A man was jailed after having sex with a 14-year-old girl who lied about her age and claimed to be 17 years old.
19-year-old Zachary Anderson of Elkhart, Indiana, was sentenced to prison and he was ordered to register as a sex offender for having consensual sex with a girl he met through a dating app.
Anderson met a girl and the couple engaged in consensual sex.
When the girl, who suffered from epilepsy, did not return home on time, her mother called the police for fear that her daughter had an attack.
Less than an hour later, the girl returned home, where she was interrogated by the police. She confessed to having sex with the 19-year-old man.
When the officers realized that the girl was only 14 years old, they were forced to arrest Anderson on charges of criminal sexual conduct, which is a misdemeanor.
Before sentencing, the victim and her mother asked the judge to drop the case because Anderson was unaware of the girl’s age.
However, the judge sentenced Anderson to 90 days in prison, and he was ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years.
The case will also had an impact on the teenager’s career as he wanted to study computer science, but he has been banned from using a computer or smartphone for the next five years.
Anderson’s attorney said that they plan to appeal the case.
