A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his four children by setting his home on fire, police in Japan said.
Hiroshima police said that they have arrested 40-year-old Kenichiro Suemune, a father of eight children, after being accused of causing the death of his four children because his wife failed to tell him goodbye before leaving to work.
His wife and one of his eight children were wounded as a result of the fire. According to the police investigation, Suemune returned home on Friday night and planned to return to work on Sunday.
He had been packing in preparation for his return to work when the fire broke out around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Police believe that he lost his temper while talking to his wife.
He poured gasoline inside the house and set it on fire. The house was totally destroyed. Four bodies were found at the scene.
The children were between 5 and 14 years old. Suemune’s 42-year-old wife and her 3-year-old child were injured while two children escaped unharmed.
His eldest child, 18, was not home at the time of the fire.
