A man was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly spitting on a woman’s clothes while riding on a crowded train, police in Japan said.
Tokyo police said that they have managed to catch 52-year-old Takahiro Hayakawa, after being arrested on an unrelated charge.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on the JR Tokaido Line as the train traveled from the Yokohama to the Shinagawa station.
Hayakawa allegedly spat on the clothes of the woman who was going to work at that time. Police recovered a sample of the suspect’s saliva from the woman’s clothes and the DNA was analyzed.
When Hayakawa was arrested on an unrelated charge, the police were able to match his DNA with that found on the woman’s clothes.
Hayakawa has denied the allegations.
