An elderly woman was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a real estate company.
Nairobi police said that they arrested 95-year-old Esther Nyambura Wachira on Thursday, after she was accused of stealing Sh900,000 ($8,851).
The woman denied the allegations. The woman’s attorney asked a judge to free her because she suffers from arthritis, diabetes and hypertension.
However, Wachira was booked into jail and her bail was set at Sh100,000 ($984). Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko offered to bail out Wachira.
Wachira allegedly stole the money from a real estate venture owned by Peter Macharia, Francis Kabue, and Fredrick Mwangi. The three formed Masterways Property.
Wachira owns several properties across the country through her company called Kiona.
