A teenager was rushed to a hospital after collapsing on board a commercial airplane due to wearing many layers of clothing, police in Scotland said.
19-year-old James McElvar was taken off the plane after suffering from heat exhaustion.
The incident unfolded as the Rewind band member was flying on EasyJet from Stansted, London, to Glasgow, with fellow band members on Wednesday.
When McElvar was told that he would have to pay a surcharge for excess luggage for carrying a bag full of clothes, he chose to wear each item to save $70.
McElvar put on 6 T-shirts, 4 jumpers, 3 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of sweatpants, 2 jackets and 2 hats. As the plane took off from the airport, McElvar took off some of the clothes as he began feeling dizzy.
However, it was too late. Already sweating profusely and feeling light-headed, McElvar became violently ill. The singer collapsed and he was placed on the floor by an on board paramedic.
McElvar said that he knew something was wrong from the beginning as he had a hard time breathing and felt like he was having a heart attack
When the plane landed in Glasgow, he was rushed by an ambulance to a nearby hospital. EasyJet wished McElvar a quick recovery.
