A man was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly piercing the eye of his colleague with an umbrella during an argument at work, police in Japan said.

Tokyo police said that 55-year-old Yoshiya Takishima died on Saturday, after being in a coma for a month.

Doctors said that the tip of the umbrella pierced his eye and his brain. The incident unfolded in the evening after the victim and the suspect had been drinking with another colleague.

According to the police investigation, Takishima was arguing with his 54-year-old Yasushi Fukunishi, when Fukunishi struck Takishima with his umbrella, hitting him in the eye.

Fukunishi was initially charged with assault, but it was changed to an accidental injury resulting in death after Takishima died.
