A man was arrested after beating a prostitute who demanded that he wear a condom, police in Zimbabwe said.

The man of Gwery, who is employed by the agriculture ministry as a veterinary officer, was charged with assaulting a prostitute during the dispute over a condom.

The suspect, Robert Chiadzwa, assaulted the prostitute who was identified as Cloepatra Nyoni, with open fist and with a chain during the argument.

Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga ordered Chiadzwa to pay a fine of $100 or face 30 days in jail.

Prosecutors told the court that Chiadzwa met the woman around 2:00 a.m., and he asked her for sex.

After the two agreed on a price, they went to the home of Nyoni. They got into the argument after Chiadzwa allegedly refused to use a condom and demanded his money back.

When Nyoni refused to return the money, Chiadzwa assaulted her. She suffered bruises on the face and hip.

Nyoni’s landlord, Mercy Gazimbi, intervened and stopped the fight. Police were called, and Chiadzwa was arrested.
