A man was arrested on a charge of arson after allegedly cutting up his girlfriend’s teddy bear and setting it on fire, police in Tennessee said.

Firefighters in Memphis responded to a call in the 3400 block of Knight Road.

When they arrived, the fire was out, but the victim told them that her boyfriend, 26-year-old Marshay Frenard, had intentionally set the fire.

According to the police investigation, the woman said that she and her boyfriend had split up in the morning after he went through her cellphone and accused her of cheating.

After telling him to leave the home, Frenard grabbed a stuffed bear and cut it open. He then threw it into the fireplace, doused it with lighter fluid and set it on fire.

Realizing the danger, the woman woke up her two children and ran out of the house. Police arrested Frenard on Saturday, and charged him with arson.

His bail was set at $300,000.
