A robbery victim was shocked to be fined $11,000 for beating up a phone thief for trying to grab his phone, according to court documents in China.
The court in Dongguan, sentenced the man identified as Yuan, to three months probation in addition to the fine.
The thief identified as Zeng, tried to steal the cellphone from Yuan, but he fought him off and chased after with two other men.
The three caught up with Zeng and beat him up. Zeng reported the incident to the police, and the three men were arrested on charges of assault.
Yuan and his accomplices were found criminally liable for the beating. Zeng was not prosecuted for the theft because the victim failed to file a police complaint.
