Five students were arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly piercing their classmate’s ear with a thumb tack, police in Japan said.

Nagoya police said that they have arrested the five 16-year-old students after they were accused of bullying their classmate in school.

According to the police investigation, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, after the students were dismissed from class.

Four students held the victim down while the fifth student pierced the left ear of the boy with the half an inch thumb tack.

During questioning, one of the boys admitted to the allegations while the other four students denied the accusation, claiming that the victim wanted to be pierced.

The principal of the school apologized to the victim and said that the act was considered bullying.
