(Scroll down for video) A good-hearted elderly man was fired from his job for paying a driver’s toll.
The 77-year-old man was fired from his job at the tollbooth in Florida, after his superiors learned that he paid $5 in toll for a driver out of his own pocket.
Vladislav ‘Sam’ Samsonov of Boca Grande, loved his job where he worked for the past 29 years. He often gave sweet treats to children who passed his toll booth.
Samsonov said that throughout the 29 years working at the Boca Grande Causeway, he used his own money if a driver did not have enough cash or if there had been a mistake.
During this particular incident, Samsonov mistakenly undercharged the driver and used his own money to pay the difference when he realized his error.
Samsonov had previously been warned not to use his own money to help drivers in need. However, he was never officially written up.
As punishment for helping a driver with his own cash, the Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority offered to reduce his work to two days a week instead of five days instead of being fired.
However, Samsonov declined the offer.
