A man beat his friend until he fell unconscious because he urinated on his carpet, police in California said.

San Francisco police said that they have arrested 23-year-old Demarea Barnes, after being accused of beating his friend because he urinated on his carpet and not in the toilet.

According to the police investigation, the attack took place around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at a home on Matthew Court.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, found the 20-year-old victim lying unconscious on the sidewalk with severe head and facial injuries.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries considered to be life threatening. He is said to be in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene after the attack, but police used surveillance video to track him down. Barnes admitted to knowing the victim and said that the fight stemmed from the victim urinating on his carpet.

Barnes was booked into jail and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
