Omaha police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Stephen Thompson on Friday, after being accused of punching 27-year-old Kara Barone because she is transgender.
According to the police investigation, Barone was dressed in a black dress, makeup and a wig. Barone advised officers that she identifies herself as a woman and uses the name Kara.
Barone told police she was in the ladies room at the Down Under Lounge, when she was attacked by Thompson.
Thompson told police that he went into the bathroom to look for his girlfriend when Barone flung open the door and came out aggressively.
Barone had a swollen lip and her face was bloody. Thompson was arrested and charged with assault as a hate crime as he yelled fa***t during the assault.
Thompson, who was dressed like a priest, was booked into the Douglas County Jail, and his bail was set at $50,000.
