A man seeking asylum, was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly having sex with numerous unsuspecting women without telling them that he is carrying HIV, police in Iceland said.

Reykjavik police said that they have arrested the foreigner of Nigeria, after being accused of having sex with numerous young women, infecting them with HIV.

The man was arrested following a Directorate of Health investigation into the increased number of HIV infections. The police are urging women who have been in contact with the suspect, to come forward and be tested.

So far, the man has been charged with one count of assault, but further charges may be added as the investigation continues.

In April, a man was arrested, charged and convicted of rape after raping a young girl, prosecutors in Nigeria said. A court in Kano, has sentenced the man to be stoned to death for raping the 13-year-old girl and infecting her with HIV.

Lawyers believe that the man’s sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment. The convict, Ubale Sa’idu Dotsa, testified on Wednesday, that the devil caused him to have sex with the girl.

The 63-year-old man claimed that he did not know he was infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Dotsa argued that the teenager turned him on by visiting his shop late at night.

Judge Faruk Ahmed ignored his plea for leniency. The judge ordered him to pay the victim $240,000. Dotsa is a married man and a father of children.
