A young woman nearly died while using an ATM to withdraw cash in China.
23-year-old Xiao Liu of Xi’an, was entering her PIN at the ATM when a surge of electricity left her injured.
Liu was shocked by 200 volts of electric while the maximum safe amount of electric is 36 volts. The electricity passed from her hand to her body, leaving her right arm stiff and sore.
Liu was forced to the ground by the impact of the shock outside a China Everbright Bank. Liu was bleeding and the fingernails of the thumb and ring finger were broken.
After recovering from the initial shock, the frightened woman went to a nearby hospital for treatment. Liu was forced to take sick leave after being unable to type on a keyboard due to her injuries.
The China Everbright Bank apologized for the incident, and said that the bank will compensate the woman by paying for her medical treatment.
The cause of the ATM malfunction is unknown. The ATM has been removed.
