A man who received a speeding ticket in the mail, disputed the charges after a photo of the incident showed the driver eating a banana.
The man of Sweden, was driving down a road in Vastmanland, while eating a banana.
The speed limit on the road is 60 miles per hour. However, the man’s vehicle was caught on video going 68 miles per hour. In the video, the driver was clearly seen with a piece of banana in his mouth.
He was ordered to pay a fine of 1,500 kronor ($174) for speeding, but thanks to his strange excuse, his fine was dismissed.
Police said that the man denied driving the car when the speed camera took the picture.
His defense was that he could not eat bananas.
“I have not eaten bananas in more than 2 years due to my low carb high fat diet (LCHF),” the man told the court.
The man also claimed that at the time of the incident, he had put his car up for sale and between six and ten people test drove the car.
The Vastmanland district court judge tried comparing the man’s passport and driver’s license photos with pictures of the photo that was taken while he was speeding.
However, the photograph was of poor quality and the banana obscured the man’s face. It was not possible to determine the identity of the driver.
The man was acquitted and the ticket was dismissed.
