According to the police investigation, Slager set his fiancee on fire around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Witnesses called police, saying that a woman was on fire behind the Speedway gas station near the Heartland Bank.

A caller said the man had approached the woman with a cigarette lighter and set her on fire. He said that it looked like they were arguing.
