(Scroll down for video) A man who was arrested on a charge of assault for setting his fiancee on fire behind a gas station, called the incident an accident, police in Ohio said.
Gahanna police said that they have arrested 40-year-old Michael Slager, after being accused of assaulting 31-year-old Judith A. Malinowski.
Slager was charged with arson and assault. He was booked into the Franklin County jail, and his bail was set at $800,000.
According to the police investigation, Slager set his fiancee on fire around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Witnesses called police, saying that a woman was on fire behind the Speedway gas station near the Heartland Bank.
A caller said the man had approached the woman with a cigarette lighter and set her on fire. He said that it looked like they were arguing.
After setting the woman on fire, Slager tried to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher. The woman was lying on the ground, and appeared to be in poor condition.
Slager said that the incident was the result of an accident.
