Family and friends are devastated over the loss of a police officer who died while he was helping another man.
The 44-year-old North Carolina sheriff died after being attacked by a swarm of wasps.
Wilson County Sheriff’s Officer Lt. Ray “Bull” Tomlinson died of a heart attack after being attacked by the insects. He was taken to the Wilson Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save him.
The incident occurred while the officer was helping someone load a piece of machinery, according to his family.
When they picked up the equipment, they disturbed a hornet’s nest. Tomlinson was stung on the head.
Then the wasps swarmed his legs. The men sprayed Tomlinson’s legs with brake cleaner in order to kill the wasps, and it seemed to work, according to family members.
The men continued working until Tomlinson collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
