(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly cutting off the head of his wife and her two dogs, police in Arizona said.

Phoenix police said that they have arrested 43-year-old Kenneth Dale Wakefield, after admitting to beheading his wife and two dogs because he wanted to rid them of evil.

Wakefield told police that he had smoked marijuana about an hour before the killings on Saturday. Wakefield also mutilated himself during the rampage.

He was booked into the Maricopa County jail, and his bail was set at $2 million.

According to the police investigation, Wakefield stabbed 49-year-old Trina Heisch several times before decapitating her, and killing the dogs by cutting off their heads.

The man then cut off his left arm and gouged out his eye.

A neighbor said that he saw Wakefield naked, with part of his severed arm and his right eye missing when he opened the apartment door.

The neighbor then called the police. The officers entered the house and found Heisch in a closet along with the two dogs.

Wakefield and his wife had a history of mental illness, domestic violence and drug abuse. Relatives told police that the two married after meeting at a mental health facility.
