A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing a police officer during a fight over spaghetti, police in Nigeria said.
Lagos State police said that they have arrested 38-year-old Haldu Shaibu, after being accused of using an iron rod to kill Officer Babangida Yeiwa.
Shaibu told investigators that he lived in an apartment with the police officer and Victor Kapivet. On the day of the incident around 7:00 a.m., Yeiwa gave Shaibu N1,000 ($5) to prepare spaghetti and fish.
Shaibu went out and bought the ingredients at a nearby market before coming back home to prepare the food. Later in the day, Yeiwa returned and asked for his food.
Shaibu served him the spaghetti and fish, but Yeiwa was not happy. Yeiwa asked for his money, but Shaibu said he had none and gave the change to Kapivet.
Yeiwa became angry and grabbed a knife. In response, Shaibu grabbed an iron bar and hit Yeiwa in the head. Yeiwa was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Shaibu was arrested at the scene, and he was charged with one count of murder.
