Man attempts to kill his girlfriend by forcing her to drink soup containing 20 cigarettes

A man was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after poisoning his girlfriend by forcing her to eat a soup containing 20 cigarettes, police in Japan said.

Shizuoka police announced said that they arrested 22-year-old Takahiro Kondo, after being accused of forcing his 23-year-old girlfriend to consume a soup containing a lethal dose of tobacco.

According to the police investigation, around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, Kondo put a knife to the woman’s throat and forced her to consume 20 cooked cigarettes.

There was also a sleeping pill inside the soup. After the woman began to vomit, she was rushed to a hospital. Doctors said that consuming just two cigarettes can be fatal.

Kondo was arrested on and charged with one count of attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, saying that he and his girlfriend attempted to commit suicide.

The victim made a full recovery and was released from the hospital. The couple had been living together for several years before the incident.
