Parents were arrested charged and convicted of child abuse after investigators found a cockroach living inside the breathing tube of their disabled son, prosecutors in Ohio said.
42-year-old Christian Cunard and 46-year-old Cunard Wayne, both of Akron, were sentenced to serve time in prison for abusing their 4-year-old son.
Christian Cunard, the mother of four others abused children, was sentenced to serve three years in prison while her husband was sentenced to serve just one year in prison.
According to the police investigation, Christian Cunard was responsible for the abuse. Wayne Cunard agreed to cooperate with investigators and to testify against his wife.
In court, Christian Cunard blamed her husband for the abuse, saying that he never gave her money to care for the children.
As part of the sentence, the couple lost custody of their children. The children are in foster care. The court was told that the children were not fed and they were underweight.
In one incident, the parents tied their 6-year-old to a chair with a rope.
In another incident, social workers found a cockroach inside the breathing tube of the 4-year-old boy who is suffering from cystic fibrosis.
