A female hospital patient was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a newborn baby in the head with a long knife, police in Vietnam said.
Vinh Long police said that they have arrested 51-year-old Nguyen Thi Van, after being accused of stabbing the 11-day-old boy in the head while his mother was next to him.
Doctors at the Vinh Long General Hospital, said that 5 inches of the knife sank into the baby’s brain as he was being treated for pneumonia.
Surgeons operated on the child for three hours, to remove the knife without causing any damage. The mother of the child, 32-year-old Vo Thi Hong Duyen, told investigators that she saw Van attack her baby.
Van shared a room with the baby and his mother. The mother screamed and hospital employees detained the suspect until police arrived.
Van was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder.
