Two men were jailed after they carjacked a woman while she was on her way to the hospital.
25-year-old Deverey Hasani-Jarod Kelley of Maryland, was jailed for carjacking the woman who was in labor and on the way to the hospital.
U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Kelley to 5 years in prison. The prison sentence will be followed by three years supervised release.
Kelley and his accomplice were convicted of pointing guns at two people in Copeland Street in Annapolis. Prosecutors said that the victims were on the way to the hospital because the woman was in labor.
Kelley and co-defendant Cornell Robinson, forced the woman out of the car at gunpoint. She was ordered to go into a nearby building, where they demanded money.
Robinson took the victim’s car keys and the two men drove off in the car.
Annapolis police pursued the car. During the chase, Kelley threw out a loaded gun, which was recovered by police.
Robinson and Kelley got out of the car on Tyler Avenue and fled, but were arrested nearby. Police also recovered a shotgun.
A federal jury convicted Robinson, 45, of Washington, D.C. He faces 15 years in prison for carjacking, life in prison for possession and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
