69-year-old man with amputated leg works as street cleaner

A man caught the attention of people after he was spotted cleaning the streets despite having an amputated leg.

Photos of the 69-year-old amputee sweeper in Chengdu, China, have gone viral on social media, where many people are praising him for keeping his dignity and working to support his family.

Deng Xianguo lost half of his leg when he was 19 years old after an accident. Xianguo said that he has been sweeping the streets using crutches for the past seven years. Xianguo said that he is very happy to work to support his family.

“I like this job very much because I can earn money and I am able to pay tuition for my grandchildren,” he said.

Xianguo begins his work at 5:00 a.m. He picks up cigarette butts and other dirt that people throw to the floor.

Since his story went viral, people began visiting the elderly man. Many people gave him cash and food.
