A man was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly shoplifting steaks and hiding them in his colostomy bag, police in South Carolina said.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 55-year-old David Earl Hoyt, after being accused of taking steaks from a store and walking out without paying for them.
The theft was reported at the Food Lion located on Highway 221 around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the police investigation, two store employees saw Hoyt putting five ribeye steaks in the bag and went into his car without paying.
Employees wrote down the car’s license plate number and called the police. Employees showed officers store surveillance video, which recorded the suspect in the act.
The officers went to the suspect’s home, where a woman said that Hoyt had stolen the steaks and put them in his colostomy bag.
Hoyt admitted to shoplifting. The steaks’ estimated value was placed at $75. He was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center, and his bail was set at $2,000.
