Police were called to a zoo after a baby baboon went missing.
Police in Macedonia, searched for the baboon that was kidnapped from the zoo in Skopje. Officers said that the baboon, named Luka, was taken on Tuesday, by two people who cut open the enclosure.
Police arrested a 26-year-old mother who stole it to give it as a gift to her deaf child.
The unidentified woman said that she took 18-month-old Luka as a belated birthday gift for her 7-year-old son who is deaf.
The woman said that she frequently visits the zoo with her son and he is “in love with the monkey.” Luka was rescued about four hours after it went missing.
Two people have been charged with crimes related to the theft. Zoo officials said that Luka became a favorite for children visiting the zoo after it was abandoned by its mother after birth.
