A police officer claims that he suffered hearing loss after responding to a burglary at a nightclub, according to court documents in the United Kingdom.
Police Officer Darren Belford of Staffordshire, stated in his complaint that the noise level at the Gossip Nightclub, left him with hearing loss and tinnitus.
The manager of the club responded to the lawsuit, claiming that the officer is just seeking to earn extra money by suing him.
The incident occurred after the alarm at the nightclub sent an automatic warning to the police department. Officers responded to the scene to investigate a possible break in.
One officer suffered hearing loss due to the loud alarm.
The officer’s attorney said the alarm was so loud that it was likely to cause injury, but the security company that installed it said it complied with industry standards.
The police department said that the lawsuit is a private matter and it is not being officially funded.
