(Scroll down for video) A boy woke up during the night traumatized after his mother forced him to shoot their neighbor’s dog.

The boy told his father about the incident and his mother was arrested.

The mother of Pahrump, Nevada, is accused of killing her neighbor’s puppy because the dog killed her two ducklings, according to police.

40-year-old Maria Furtado was arrested after police received reports of the dog’s shooting.

According to the sheriff’s office, Furtado stole the puppy from her neighbor’s property and drove it to a desert along with her children, who are 3 and 15 years old.

Furtado used a gun to shoot the puppy before handing the gun to her teenage son and forcing him to finish off the dog.

The dog’s owners, Turpin and Rick Wills, who are heartbroken over the death of their puppy named Duke, said that the teenager woke up during the night traumatized and told his father about the shooting incident.

The father then called Wills to tell let them know what happened and where they can find the body of their dog.

Furtado was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, petit larceny as well as child abuse and child neglect. A judge set her set bail at $25,000.
