(Scroll down for video) An elderly woman is lucky to be alive after her dog pulled her to safety and called the police when a fire broke out in her home, police in Pennsylvania said.
Philadelphia police said that the heroic service dog saved the 60-year-old blind woman after the home they shared caught fire on Thursday morning.
The dog named Yolanda dialed 911 with a specialized phone and alerted police about the fire, and firefighters quickly responded to the scene.
They were able to rescue Yolanda’s owner, Maria Colon, and she was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Yolanda was rewarded with food, toys, treats and supplies.
This was not the first time that the dog called the police. Last year, the dog’s owner fell in the house and was unconscious when it called the police.
